Learning Design Philosophy

I have contributed to a wide range of projects centered on technology, design, and innovation in higher education. These projects include Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), virtual reality simulations, role playing simulations, online micro-credentials, a graduate certificate program in learning experience design, and student-led design studios, among other initiatives. Informed by research insights, I seek to design learning experiences that are inclusive, collaborative, and learner-centered. In particular, I recognize that learning, and learning design practices, are inherently ethical, social, and relational practices that occur among people with diverse backgrounds and interests.  Accordingly, my design practice seeks to humanize both learners and design stakeholders as agentic  subjects.

Problem Solving Using Computational Thinking

This MOOC provides an introduction to the computational thinking process. As a Learning Experience Designer, I coordinated with media designers, subject matter experts, and a team of student designers to conceptualize, create, and implement curricular materials. Since its launch, this MOOC has enrolled over 80,000 learners from across the world. You can freely enroll in this course here.

Brilliant, Passionate You

This MOOC is an interdisciplinary look at how we can make each day the best day of our lives by examining the question, “How can you be your most brilliant, passionate self?” As a learning experience designer, I collaborated with a range of subject matter experts to create course materials, including scripting Lewis - the animated host of the course. Since its launch, this MOOC has enrolled over 30,000 learners worldwide. You can freely enroll in this course here

University of Michigan Learning Experience Design Graduate Certificate

Launched in 2019, the Learning Experience Design graduate certificate at the University of Michigan prepares graduate students to design online and technology-enhanced learning environments. Through course work at the UM Marsal Family School of Education and an applied residency program at the UM Center for Academic Innovation, students gain foundational theoritical and practical experience. Resilient Teaching Through Times of Crisis and Change

Designed for higher education instructors, this MOOC introduces the concept of resilient design for learning. As a learning experience designer, I collaborated the course instructor to design engaging course materials. Since its launch, this MOOC has reached over 6,000 learners worldwide. You can freely enroll in this course here

Grand Path

Grand Path is a presidential initiative at Grand Valley State University that empowers student designers as they develop technology-enhanced solutions to educational problems. In this initiative, I provided consultative support on research and pedagogy to student designers, staff, and faculty in the program. You can read more about the initiative here
